Super Model / Prone Foil Board
After Two Years of Development, Introducing the
The Super Model started as one of those creatively obsessive thoughts that John had and could not forget about, a prone foil board that would paddle fast like a race paddleboard. Knowing that a 4 foot something board could never paddle as fast a 12 foot paddleboard, John embarked on a quest to design a foil board that would paddle fast while retaining a high caliber of wave riding performance. In the design and prototyping process John realized the narrow concept not only paddled better but the narrower width increased overall performance as well. Introducing the Super Model! The obviously narrow outline has many benefits for the high-level rider:
-Less swing weight. Rail weight has been pushed even further towards the center of the board giving the ride a more sensitive and responsive feel.
-Less air friction when pumping. The narrow outline creates less surface area which reduced air contact as the nose goes up and down when pumping at a high cadence.
-More clearance between the rail and the water in laid over turns.
-Less drag when touching down. The straighter outline has far less drag (compared to a rounder outline) when touching the rail to the water in laid out hard turns. Touch down in flat landings are also less “sticky” and recover much better than with the wider outlines.
-Less drag when paddling. The straighter outline and pointier nose cut through the water much more efficiently than most rounder and fuller noses. One thing that has been over looked by most designers is the “jump up” to your feet. When catching a wave there is the transition from paddling to standing. A lot of the time this is a “make or break” moment, if you jump to your feet slightly off the wave passes you by. When pushing up (jumping to your feet) you are pushing the boards nose down into the water. A wider and rounder nose has much more resistance and drag at this critical moment. The narrow nose entry gives the rider the extra burst of speed in that critical moment when jumping up.
Foot Strap Inserts: The Super Model comes with foot strap inserts for those who want to boost in the surf, tow in to swell or even fly with their wind wing. To minimize weight we have built the Super Model with one row of inserts down the center to accommodate regular or goofy stance.
Concave Deck: The concave deck gives the rider rock solid control with every input of heel and toe being translated directly into the foil. This gives the Super Model an incredibly sensitive feel.
Beveled Rail: The bevel rail design gives more clearance between the rail and water when laying over into turns. This rail design also helps recover and rebound after touching down in a hard turn.
Kick Tail: This tail allows the rider to kick the board up onto the foil much sooner than a flat tail. The kick tail also gives more clearance in steeper waves and in hard turns.
Tail Pad: Amundson Customs is proud to introduce the new corduroy cut rear deck pad. This pad is less aggressive than a traditional pad, reducing rash but increasing grip.
“Lift Stick”: Every board comes with a “Lift Stick” or mast placement measurement logo. This logo helps gauge placement of you mast. The Lift Stick has a + and – to indicate more lift (+ moving mast forward) or less lift (- moving mast back).
Mounting Hardware: Your board comes with high quality M8 stainless steel foil mounting hardware.
NEW Ultra Light VACUUM CARBON CONSTRUCTION!
These foil boards are built with a high density EPS core that is CNC machined and hand finished. The finished blank is then fitted with a shock absorbing/load spreading high density PVC foam plate with flanged mast tracks, this assures a very strong connection between your board and foil. The Super Model is laminated with a high quality carbon fiber and then cured under vacuum pressure. What this means, excess epoxy is removed for lightness and carbon weave is compressed together for a high degree of stiffness. The board is finished with high quality polyurethane paint. Not only does this construction look beautiful, it is light and stiff for ultimate performance.
WHO IS THIS BOARD FOR?
The Super Model is designed for the advanced rider looking for the lightest, stiffest and most advanced foil board possible. This design is for the small to medium sized riders and larger riders who are strong paddlers. The Super Model works best for high performance wave riding, downwind, wake foiling and beach/dock start pumping. While the Super Model has been used for winging the construction is not designed for high jumps with hard landings, it does work well for wave riding and down winders.
